Prior to starting, please ensure your slabs have been primed. Due to the non-absorbent nature of porcelain, non-primed slabs will not form a mechanical bond to your bedding material, and are likely to rock or move, after a spell of subzero winter weather.
Our PrimeTec polymer-enhanced primer has been specifically designed to form a rock-solid mechanical bond between your slabs and base so it is imperative all porcelain is fully primed prior to laying.
Prior to grouting, please ensure your bedding material has fully cured, this is extremely important. Our grout is designed to be effective, if you grout your slabs prior to your base material being fully cured, you run the risk of efflorescence been sucked from the non-cured normal sand/cement base material and been deposited on the top of your grout.
Make sure your joints are clean and free from any debris, and not holding pooled water. When lying on a fully wet bed (as you should be), please ensure that you scrape out any bedding material that has encroached into your grout line, allowing a full 20mm of depth for your grout.
The area around your joint lines can be dampened with a damp sponge prior to grouting, this can help significantly when it comes to cleaning excess grout from your slabs. This is especially true during warm weather when slabs are warm.
PorTec is a micro formulation, which makes it extremely suitable for use in a pointing gun, which is by far a less messy way of pointing porcelain, and significantly reduces the amount of excess grout left on your slabs.
If using a pointing gun, make sure the grout fully penetrates right to the bottom of the joint, prior to striking off with your tiler’s float. Always lubricate the inside of your pointing gun with water prior to filling, as this lubricates the barrel.
Prior to finishing, inspect all your grout lines for air bubbles and pin holes and touch up any blemishes prior to the final set.
