These chunky thick Kandla Grey block steps compliment our Kandla Grey Indian sandstone paving but also can be used as a contrast for the other colours of Indian stone. The front edges of the steps have been hand-chiselled to give a natural finish to the steps. The long length of these steps allows you to have much fewer joints on larger step areas. Customers have created many uses for these thick steps including flower beds, mantle pieces and window sills. Kandla or Grey sandstone contains natural iron which may oxidise and appear as brown marks. This may never occur if it does occur there are products that can help remove it or it can be left to fade itself and it may affect some flags more than others. The iron is normally found within grey sandstone from any supplier and is not classed as a fault.

Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock that is most often composed of quartz sand, although sometimes they can be formed of feldspar. Sandstone is one of the most popular stones for garden paving, this is due to its strength, durability and also the different types of finishes and natural colours that it has meaning that it can be adapted to suit any type or style of garden.

You can get Sandstone paving with a variety of different surface finishes. One of the finishes you can get with sandstone is a riven finish, this finish gives the stone more of a textured, rustic look. This type of finish is the first finish you get from the natural stone once the stone is sheered apart. This process occurs when the stone is originally cut from the block and sheered apart and thus giving a riven finish along the vein of the rock.
